Vimal Parmar
Vimal is passionate about green/climate finance, ESG, health finance, poverty reduction, environmental/nature conservation, governance, financial integrity, and sustainable finance/development through creating a positive impact on the environment and livelihoods of people. Vimal’s extensive work experience of +18 years spans across Africa (over 35 countries), Middle East and global firms responsible for Africa and Frontier Markets. His expertise lies in financial sector, capital markets, climate/green finance, sustainable development, nature conservation and research. His specialities range from technical assistance, grants, investments in sustainable development capital, financial integrity, advisory and research.
At FSD Africa, Vimal is responsible for leading and managing the implementation of climate/green, sustainable finance and capital markets development initiatives across Africa, including social and development impact bonds. He manages various partnerships and stakeholder relationships across the globe in building ecosystems. He leads the execution of strategies for strengthening African capital markets, market infrastructure, capacity building and enhancing access to growth finance in the region through capital mobilization.
He has spearheaded the development of Capital Market Regulator strategies and master plans in several African countries, as well as led country diagnostics and championed sustainable agendas such as the development of new policies, new products, new coalitions and networks, research, and databases.
Vimal facilitates transformative and impactful development of new markets and long-term finance using sustainable/patient capital raising, pensions and knowledge management. He is also involved in development capital and fintech work at FSD Africa.
Prior to joining FSD Africa, for +10 years, Vimal provided strategic executive leadership, senior management, and independent consultancy expertise in well-respected African and global firms in the investment banking space. He has been a non-executive and executive board member in different institutions. Vimal has led teams both at organizational level and department level on the research front and advised on debt and equity transactions in SSA on capital raisings and valuations, transaction/financial advisory, listings on stock exchanges, economic and industry research and provided strategic direction to both private and public companies in various sectors.
Vimal has also spearheaded and provided sell-side advice to global and African pension funds, including private equity and M&A transactions to close investment deals across various sectors.
Vimal has presented at global conferences on thought leadership in a variety of industries. He is a CFA® Charter holder with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Vimal is a Climate and Sustainable Finance professional, certified ESG specialist, and Health Economics and Policy expert who attended Frankfurt School, NYU Stern School of Business, and the London School of Economics and Political Science, respectively. After completing the Leadership Development training, he also graduated from The Leadership Team (UK).
